Yorick says: "Eat More Beans"
Thank you to the staff of the Mill City Farmer’s Market for the Facebook shoutout two weeks ago, and to the customers who made the farm’s first market day of the season a roaring success. I love you guys.
Encore Farm will be back at Mill City this Saturday the 19th for sure, and the 26th if the beans last that long.
Meet Dolloff, a new pole bean variety debuting this week in limited supply. Not only are they a gorgeous light chestnut color, they are, to quote the seed catalog, “rich, meaty, delicious.” Oh, they are.
Deep red with black mottling, Ruby is another new variety. It began as a pretty little variation that another bean threw. I saved the seed from last year, planted it this year and this is what happened. Come see for yourself.
Jake M., a customer, used River Rock to make a winter root vegetable and bean cassoulet. He reports that they are:
Perfect for chili. Warm and hearty…Ireland Creek Annie and Bird Egg are the “star of the dish.” River Rock are excellent, but are more of an “ensemble character” that blends and complements all the other flavors.
Thanks Jake!
Only two more Saturdays left for the summer Mill City market. Don’t let a little drizzle in the forecast keep you away.
