Happy New Year

Per the Gregorian calendar we’ve still got a few days, but winter solstice is this farmer’s proper New Year’s Day. All the heirloom dry beans are sold, next year’s seed is stashed and ready, half gallon glass jars of beans for the house line the top pantry shelf. It feels right that tonight is the year’s longest night. It’s snowing. I am ready to winter.

We’ll share some of those beans for a solstice supper, paired with pulled pork. And we’ll celebrate the fruits of a scary hot summer and the people who lent, not just a hand, but both hands, fueled by their fire to see this farm succeed.

I am a writer as well as a farmer, and this is my farm journal. I hope you’ll stop by often.

Welcome to Encore Farm.
