The Deep Sleep

Hibernation-wise, one week is nothing. But this week between Christmas and the beginning of next year is about as close as it gets for most of us humans. Days darken early, and the bitter cold seems to intensify the night, encouraging us to tuck in at home. For me, work assignments are on hold. It will be another week before meetings and classes resume. I’ll be ready for them, but until then I will plan less and sleep more.

The farm sleeps now, too. In three months a new growing season begins, and we both need our rest.
